Spring is in full swing with flowering plants blooming! The colors are changing to russet and maroon sprinkled with diehard evergreens. Waters have receded to the point where catfish are now pooling in the hundreds and the many mouths and beaks in Gorongosa take advantage of this feast. The grim-looking marabou storks slash their sharp dagger-like bills into the muddy water in search of fish. Even baboons and lions have been known to dabble in a bit of fishing!
This time of year is great for wildlife sightings! There is enough water for every animal but they have to go to specific areas to drink. Some migratory birds will start to arrive and give a prelude the much-anticipated rains.
Some heavy showers develop at the end of September and the temperature starts to rise to the mid 30’s C (90's F).
