The entire trip from Chimoio or Beira to Chitengo by bus usually takes about half a day, but we suggest leaving extra time for unexpected delays. We recommend traveling during the day, for safety reasons and because the Park gate closes at 6pm.
From Beira, you can either take a coach bus or a local bus (“chapa”). The bus from NAGI bus runs daily from Beira to Vila Gorongosa, which passes right by the turnoff to the park:
On your way to Vila Gorongosa by coach bus, ask the driver to let you off at the EN1 turn-off to the park. You will need to contact us in advance to arrange for the park shuttle van to pick you up at the turnoff into the park. You must arrive by 5pm because the park gate closes at 6pm.
Local buses “chapas” leave Beira and Chimoio hourly for Inchope, but they do not come all the way to the Park. You will need to get off at Inchope and take another the bus toward Vila Gorongosa. Ask the driver to let you off at the EN1 turn-off to the park. You will need to contact us in advance to arrange for the park shuttle van to pick you up at the turnoff into the park.
If the bus arrives in Inchope later than 4:30pm, you will need to overnight in Inchope because the park entrance gate closes at 6pm. One of the few options to overnight near Inchope is Complexo Arco-Íris, located 7 km north of Inchope on the EN1 (Phone: +258 82 5565200 / +258 84 2354070).
- When you arrive in the park, make your way to the reception desk at Girassol Gorongosa Lodge and Safari where you will pay your park entrance fees and get information on the park.
