Guided Game Drive at Dusk

  • Sunset on a Mozambique safari in Gorongosa National Park
  • Sunset on a Mozambique safari in Gorongosa National Park
  • Driving into the sunset on a Mozambique safari in Gorongosa National Park

"The most well guarded secret of Gorongosa National Park is its scenery and the sunsets just waiting for you! Park Officials should rename track nº 4 "sunset alley" and ask every visitor to go there at sunset time and enjoy the view - in silence!” – Jorge da Silva (Park Visitor)

You depart for your Mozambique safari at 3pm to explore the untamed Gorongosa wilderness for three hours. By now, the lions might be waking up from their afternoon naps and starting to think about dinner. There’s nothing quite like locking eyes with a truly wild lion – a moment that chills and thrills you. Don’t worry – they’re not interested in you! But they do perk up at the sight of an impala herd in the distance. (Unlike other parks, you won’t be in a traffic jam to see our lions.) As the day closes, the ancient silhouette of a herd of elephants crosses the horizon. They’re on their way to a favorite watering hole for some fresh water and a cooling mud bath. The light begins to glow redder, providing photographers with that blazing radiance they crave. Finally, the giant red sun arcs down towards the flood plain, teeming again with waterbuck, and your guide opens the cooler. It’s time for a classic Gorongosa “sundowner”. Sip it slowly and savor the moment. This is Africa.

Accompanied by a qualified, local Safari Guide, you can explore over 100 kilometers of tracks in an open Toyota Landcruiser with raised safari seats – perfect for game-viewing and long-lens photography. Chilled soda, water or beer is provided for your “sundowner”.

For their safety, kids under 10 aren’t allowed to ride in our open safari vehicles, but if you let us know a day in advance, we’ll arrange one of our closed vehicles for your family friendly safari.
