Pedro Muagura

Director of Conservation & Reforestation Program Coordinator

My name is Pedro Estêvão Muagura, and I was born at the Province and District of Manica, in the administrative post of Machipanda. I’m 45 years old, married, and the father of five children - four girls (Agata, Rutendo, Diana e Bredília) and one boy, Salvador, who is one and a half years old.

I studied at the ‘Chimoio Institute of Agriculture (I.A.C.)’, specializing in Forestry. I did my first bachelors degree at the International Faculty of Forest and Timber Technology in Finland. My second bachelor’s degree was done at the College of African Wildlife Management (CAWM) in Tanzania. I was a teacher of Forests and Wildlife at the Chimoio Institute of Agriculture until 2010.

I went to Gorongosa National Park for the first time in 1990 when I taught students from I.A.C. about classification and identification of mammals and plants. I joined Gorongosa National Park in 2006, when I was asked to be an instructor to help train workers as part of the reforestation program on Mount Gorongosa. In June 2010, I joined the Gorongosa team full-time as coordinator of the reforestation program of Gorongosa Park and mountain. In 2012, I was appointed Director of Conservation for Gorongosa National Park.

For me, what is really special about Gorongosa is the incredible diversity of flora and wildlife including, of course, the beauty of Mount Gorongosa. I am also inspired by the motivation of the whole team and the cooperation among the departments.
