Marcelino Goba

Community Supervisor

I was born in the city of Tete and I am the father an 11-year-old daughter called Roman. I attended primary and secondary school in the city of Tete. Since childhood I have always had a great love and passion for nature and the environment. My model is my mother who is dedicated to family farming. As a child I always accompanied her and helped her in agricultural activities during holidays and weekends. Because of her example,  I was inspired to study agriculture, and attended the  technical high school in the agrarian institute of  Chimoio since 1993 and trained in Forestry, graduating in 1997.

In late 1997 I joined the German Technical Cooperation - GTZ who were stationed in the Gorongosa district, where I worked in community development as supervisor of the network extension and community management of natural resources, facilitating community participation. From 2010 to 2014, I was the Provincial Advisor for the area of Strategic Planning and Community Participation and cross-cutting issues under the National Decentralized Planning Program in Beira. I met the Gorongosa National Park team in 1998, while working on technical partnerships and coordinated work between the GTZ and the PNG team in the buffer zone communities.

Fortunately I was able to join the Park family and its technical team in July 2015, as a manager in Community Planning in the Department of Community Affairs sector of the Restoration Project of Gorongosa National Park. The sector has a big role in technical assistance to local communities in the planning, as well as its organization in community development programs and active participation in sustainable management of the beautiful environment of Gorongosa National Park, with it’s incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna, including the beauty of Mount Gorongosa.

It's a privilege to be working with a competent, dynamic team and I am inspired to fulfill my dream as an environmentalist, conservationist and to work in my own professional field. It’s very satisfying to contribute to the project of restoration of Gorongosa National Park, I hope to learn more from the technical group that surrounds me and contribute my knowledge to the project.
